Pleasure Rides (PRs)

They may be of any distance up to a maximum of 40 km, and should be completed at a minimum speed of 8kph and a maximum speed of 12kph.

Open to members and non members.

PRs do not involve vetting when held at group level, but when run in conjunction with a National Ride, horses must be trotted up before starting, and again within 30 minutes of finishing.

Training Rides (TRs)

Training Rides are usually run alongside Pleasure Rides at group level, and are restricted to members only.

Training Rides should be completed at a minimum speed of 10kph and a maximum speed of 15kph.

Training Rides do not involve any vetting.

Graded Endurance Rides (GERs)

Graded Endurance Rides are usually between 30km and 80km, and should be completed at a speed between 8kph and 15kph for novice horses, and between 10kph and 18kph for open and advanced horses.

Open to members and non members, but non members can only compete if the horse they are riding is registered, and they are restricted to riding at novice level to a maximum distance of 40km.

Horses are required to vet before and after the ride. For rides of 55km and above, horses are also required to vet halfway.

Gradings are awarded on successful completion according to final heart rate and the speed in which the ride was completed.

Competitive Endurance Rides (CERs)

Competitve Endurance Rides are also referred to as race rides, and are between 80km and 160km, either over one day or several days.

Open to advanced horse and rider combinations only.

Horses are required to vet before, during and after the ride. Each vetting during the ride will include a "hold" where horse and rider take a breather before continuing.

CERs involve a mass start, and the aim is to cover the distance as fast as they can.

Placings are awarded according to the position they complete the ride.
